Do you want to paint a snoooooowman??

Happy Friday families!

Today was a great day in our Kindergarten room!

This morning the Kinder's had free choice for their Learning Tables (the same tables that we have been working at this week).

We then got busy working on our snowman art project. The snow this week has created a snowman frenzy in our classrooms!

This was a multistep project where the students followed the "I do" "You do" routine.
We started first by drawing the snowman step by step with pencil, then we traced it with sharpie, lastly, we added the color to bring our snowman to life!

We are not quite finished our snowman art - we still need to mount them on paper and maybe add some sparkle and pizazz!!

Look at these masterpieces! The Kinders took their time and really did an amazing job working as little artists!

We ended our morning with some center time.

Warm Feet for the Street
Thank you to all the families who have been sending in donations for the Warm Feet for the Street initiative!

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Happy Thursday! What a chilly week it has been!

This morning, after our learning tables, we read Grumpy Bird and talked about how the birds mood changed as his friends joined him and he started to forget about being grumpy. We them shared some ideas about what we do when we are feeling grumpy..

"Sometimes you just have to cry and let it all out and then you feel better"
"I like to go in my room and snuggle my blankies"
"when I am grumpy I hug my stuffy"
"I take deep breaths"
"I stay in my room and let my energy go by sitting in my monkey chair"
"Go for a walk or go in my room alone"
"Take a nap"
"When I came to school I got happy"

My Parfait
In the morning we reflected on our FoodImpact presentation. Tuesday the students shared a healthy snack of a yogurt parfait. Items to choose to make their parfait were mango, blueberries, bananas, granola made with wow butter, peaches. Trying new food combinations was exciting! The parfaits look delicious. Our Kinders were very eager to try the fruit bar which was sugar free and contained many servings of fruits. Everyone had a great time!

We talked about the healthy foods that we learned about. We learned that:
- healthy foods give you energy to run and run
- healthy foods are all fruits and vegetables and whole grains
- Healthy foods keep you from getting sick a lot
- healthy foods help you grow strong muscles

We then drew and labeled our own parfaits that we made tuesday.

Loose Parts Story Telling Center
This center encourages students to create, build and tell their own stories using loose parts.
Lately we have had an interest in students stories being recorded and shared with the class.

Here are some from today:

This afternoon we read a passage from our Breathe like a Bear book.

Taller and Shorter
The PM Knders completed another length task. We have been working on comparing items - are they TALLER or are they SHORTER.

Today's task involved the students drawing a snowman in the middle of their page and then drawing and labeling a snowman that was TALLER and a snowman that was SHORTER than the one in the middle. We are really starting to understand this concept!

Snowman length and "My Parfait"

Good Afternoon! Wow, what a chilly day!

This morning the Kinders had both P.E and Music - ask you child what skill they worked on today in both classes.

After, the AM Kinders completed another length task. We have been working on comparing items - are they LONGER or are they SHORTER.

Today's task involved the students drawing a snowman in the middle of their page and then drawing and labeling a snowman that was LONGER and a snowman that was SHORTER than the one in the middle. We are really starting to understand this concept!

Letter Gg

Happy Monday everyone!

Today both the AM and PM Kinders had P.E. - ask your child what new skill they worked on today.

Library
Both AM and PM students visited the library today. Monday's are our library day so it is helpful for your child to bring their book back before or on Monday.

On Monday's we have new Learning Table Jobs.

This week the students are focusing on:

- representing numbers
- what are healthy foods
- alphabet mazes/letter recognition - focusing on the letters we have covered so far in class (L,T,I,H,F,C,O,P,Q)

Letter Gg

Today the students learned how to print the upper and lower case Gg and what sound it makes. Together we brainstormed different words that started with the sound Gg - ask your child what two items/objects they drew.

We are really practicing keeping our letters ON the line - no floating letters - and starting our letters ALWAYS at the top.

Have Fun Teaching letter Gg

Find something Longer or Shorter

Happy Thursday!

Today the students learning job was to:
- work with a partner to trace each others foot
- cut their foot out and glue into their visual journal
- find 2 things in our classroom - one thing that is longer and one thing that is shorter than their foot

Next, the students drew and labeled the items that were longer and shorter. The students all did a great job working together with their partner to trace their feet and then independently finding items that were longer or shorter.
